Quality Castings Pty Ltd was founded in 1938 and today produces a full range of ferrous alloys comprising alloy irons, carbon and low alloy steels and high alloy (stainless) steels for corrosion, wear and heat resistant applications. Several Nickel based and exotic alloys are also in regular production. As part of QC development we are now casting Bronze alloys (ie Aluminium and Manganese Bronzes). Maximum dressed casting weight is approximately 1300kg in Steel alloys and up to 3500kg in Iron.
The foundry moulding process uses alkali-setting phenolic resin bonded sand with ceramic sprues and assisted risers where appropriate. Melting is by high frequency electric induction and pouring temperatures are measured by digital readout immersion pyrometers.
Metal composition is controlled by spectrographic analysis of the melt sample and adjustment if necessary before pouring. Adjusted composition is confirmed by production sample analysis. Test bars, when required, are heat treated with the casting they represent and because of the rigid composition control exercised, consistent properties are obtained.
